Los Angeles Galaxy hold the Discovery Rights to Casemiro, blocking his potential move to Inter Miami. The Brazilian midfielder is close to reaching an agreement with the Florida club, but LA Galaxy must receive financial compensation to waive their priority negotiating rights. According to journalist Ben Jacobs on X, Casemiro has decided to continue his career in MLS with Inter Miami next season. He would sign with his new club through 2028. However, LA Galaxy control Casemiro's MLS future, as they were the first to register him. Discovery Rights are a special MLS rule under which each team holds priority rights to a list of five players who are not yet under contract in the league. The aim is to prevent teams from competing directly for the same player and inflating transfer fees, while also helping maintain competitive balance. Under this system, club interests take precedence over the player's preference. LA Galaxy had considered exercising their priority rights to sign the Brazilian themselves, but multiple offers made to the player's representatives were reportedly rejected. There is precedent for similar deals involving the Galaxy: the California club previously paid $400,000 to Charlotte FC for the Discovery Rights to Marco Reus, the highest fee ever recorded for such rights.
